Description: DL-Phenylalanine by Solaray is a 50/50 (Equimolar) mixture of D-Phenylalanine and L-Phenylalanine from microbial fermentation.
L-phenylalanine can also be converted (through a separate pathway) to phenylethylamine, a substance that occurs naturally in the brain and appears to elevate mood.
D-phenylalanine is converted primarily to phenylethylamine (a potential mood elevator). DL-phenylalanine also appears to influence certain chemicals in the brain that relate to pain sensation.
DLPA is a mixture of the essential amino acid L-phenylalanine and its mirror image D-phenylalanine. DLPA (or the D- or L-form alone) has been used to treat depression. DL-phenylalanine may be helpful for some individuals with Parkinson’s disease. DL-phenylalanine has been used to treat chronic pain—including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis—with positive results. For conditions where DL-phenylalanine alone has been shown to be effective, DLPA also works, as it contains 50% D-phenylalanine.
Ingredients - per capsule:
- DL-Phenylalanine (DLPA) 500 mg
Other Ingredients: Gelatin (capsule), and cellulose.
CAUTION: This product NOT intended for use by people with PKU (phenylketonuria), or pregnant or lactating women. If you have high blood pessure or pre-existing pigmented malignant melanoma, use only under the guidance of a physician. Do NOT take with MAO inhibitor antidepressant drugs.
